La fors (strength) has always been celebrated in Métis culture because it is necessary to adapt and respond to life’s ever changing circumstances. Healthy competition, hard work, and persistence help to build resilience against difficult times both in our lives and in ourselves.  The old people tell me that it takes a warrior’s strength to develop a person’s gifts and it is the role of community and elders to support youth on their path.  Resilience and la fors are necessary and nurtured.

This is part of a series of mindfulness prompts that are based in Métis teachings. Each weekly post has an image specifically designed to fit the lock-screen on your phone. The idea is that you can make mindfulness easy, effective and beautiful all at the same time. Placing each new image on your lock screen serves to keep it in the front of your mind while the week allows you enough time to lean into the learning.
