The moon in August is known as “Flying Up Moon”.  This time when young birds are trying their wings and practicing flying is ripe with lessons for the thoughtful observer.  As I watch, I am reminded of how important it must be for birds to know that they are birds.  If you want your children to fly you must live your life in flight.  How else could our young people understand that a vast and beautiful world awaits their first flight.

This is part of a series of mindfulness prompts that are based in Métis teachings. Each weekly post has an image specifically designed to fit the lock-screen on your phone. The idea is that you can make mindfulness easy, effective and beautiful all at the same time. Placing each new image on your lock screen serves to keep it in the front of your mind while the week allows you enough time to lean into the learning.
