Shaakihiwayhk (love) can ease our path in so many ways.  It is my understanding that an open loving heart was highly valued in the traditional Métis way of life. Developing unconditional love was important in order to create a healthy Métis community. Shaakihiwayhk begins with ourselves, radiating outward to family, community, nation, and for all of creation. To see how this is lived we can always look to our old people.  While they pass the memories of generations through our blood, they share the gifts and lessons of life in their approach to each day.

This is part of a series of mindfulness prompts that are based in Métis teachings. Each weekly post has an image specifically designed to fit the lock-screen on your phone. The idea is that you can make mindfulness easy, effective and beautiful all at the same time. Placing each new image on your lock screen serves to keep it in the front of your mind while the week allows you enough time to lean into the learning.
